Judy’s Philosophy
Judy views the human body as being a fundamental part of nature. With neglect and abuse we can upset the fine balance of our external environment. Likewise our bodies when neglected will also become imbalanced and disease will materialise. The good thing Judy sees in her clinic and working with patients, is our body knows how to heal itself.
Judy sees her job as helping patients identify where imbalances have contributed to health problems and then in assisting them restore balance so their body can heal itself.
Why did Judy become a Naturopath?
I have seen a great deal of human suffering in my life. My own mother was very ill for many years prior to her death and as a child I felt powerless to help her. I lived in an undeveloped country for 10 years where I witnessed poverty and disease. I worked with street kids in Sydney and also worked in drug and alcohol, teaching people about the magnificence of their own bodies, how to shop and create healthy meals.
I worked with hundreds of employees in many of the well known companies, banks, government departments, in Australia. It is true I have worked with, lectured to and assisted many thousands from all aspects and sections of our community.
I have also worked in a large Sydney Hospital in their palliative care unit and witnessed first hand the suffering of individuals and their families.
We are not powerless unless we choose to be!
Many people view illness as a mystery: some even blame God. They are at a loss as to understand why their body has developed symptoms and they feel at a loss as to how they can help themselves. Often they are on medications that simply mask their symptoms. Sometimes the side effects of medications are unpleasant and may result in further disease.
The philosophy of naturopathy teaches them that the body can heal itself. My job is exciting in that I am educated in helping to identify and create strategies to facilitate that healing.
Hugely gratifying!
My role as a naturopath is gratifying to me as my patient’s chosen practitioner and my role in educating and empowering my patients.
I know what I do in my clinic plays a huge role in educating, empowering and relieving human suffering.
How do I work with patients?
I do extensive case evaluation. I frequently order blood tests if not already available and other laboratory testing. When all the data has been accumulated it is my preference to work with the patients diet and lifestyle, with herbs, specifically identified vitamins and minerals.
How much time do I spend with my patients?
I spend a lot of time listening to my patients health concerns and at the same time trying to understand and identify which systems of the body are involved. I enjoy the relationship the patient and I develop. Many people are amazed as to how much time and effort goes into understanding and educating them in the workings of their body.
Often this is the first time they have experienced such care and personalised attention.
Judy as a teacher!
I help my patients see and understand where and why things have gone wrong and educate them in an understanding of the nature of their health conditions. This can be hugely empowering for patients and often it starts them on their own journey of self empowerment often restoring confidence in themselves to manage their own bodies and health.
